Entoprocta (Kelchwürmer) Entoprocta |
The goblet worms, also known as goblet animals (entoprocta (Gr.: with inner anus), also called camptozoa), are an animal phylum with around 250 species. They live in the water as sessile filter feeders and are 0.5 to 5 millimeters long. They have their scientific name (Entoprocta / Greek entos = "inside" + proktos = "anus") because, in contrast to the externally similar moss animals (Bryozoa or Ectoprocta), their anus lies within the tentacle wreath. They live commensal on sponges and other creatures. They do not harm their "hosts". |
